IMPORTANT NOTES

The Presidential Platform
Hi everyone,
How quickly the end of year comes around. The sun is out, the weather is beautiful and season is in kicked off nicely with plenty of Tri action to sink your teeth into.
Club Champs at Halls Head Beach in Mandurah. UWATC had just under the required amount to allow our result to count towards the President’s trophy (for most consistent club) which was taken out by Exceed Tri Club this year. 19 raced, 20 required. Thank you to everyone who put a racing effort in. A tough result but definitely something to work for next year. I still had a great day, and I could tell our other members who raced did too!
With Interclubs, points are awarded to finishers on the basis that the first female and the first male to finish will be awarded points equal to the highest number to finish in any one gender. The second male and the second female to finish each receive one less point and so on down the list of finishers.
Xmas Break dates. Our coach Grant will be due for a well-deserved break over Christmas, and I think it’s important all our athletes also follow suit. Our official club training will take a momentary hiatus with the last run being 19th December, and starting back on Monday 7th of January in the pool. There will continue to be groups meeting for informal sessions (Xmas Cott Swims etc.) so keep an eye out on the Facebook page.
We're currently working with UWA Sport on setting up another gym membership offer for our members. This should be finalised during December to start beginning of January - keep an eye out for more details and to register your interest.
Ironman – If you have been living under a rock, or been unable to train due to small children you will know there is a pretty big race on this weekend. Best of luck to all of our Ironman Athletes. Alex Williams, Alexandra Meek, Daniel Sly, Nathaniel Wells are competing in the Full IM. Vince, Kate & James will be competing in the 70.3. We will have the club tent down, if you get the chance, come down and be inspired by these guys. The months and months of training will see some fantastic times I’m sure. Best of luck to all our IM Team. (Oops, email didn't quite get out on time! Keep an eye out for IM race reports in the coming weeks!)
Volunteers / Legends - Our club is run by volunteers, and without people giving their time and energy, we would not exist. We need your help to volunteer for a few upcoming events. O-Day for UWA Students as well as our next Bunnings BBQ on the 3rd of February. If you haven’t volunteered this year, please consider helping out the club by giving a little bit of your time. It's good fun too!
Speaking of absolute legends, whilst the rest our members were sprinting in Mandurah, our very own Tony Smith has just completed a lazy half lap of WA as part of the Mount Magnet 1400. Finishing 4th in a total time of 3:12:04:28. Have a read about this adventure in Tony's race report here. Tommaso and Lottie's School Sport State Championships race reports are also up on the website here. All well worth a read!
Don’t forget these events coming up!
- 14th December 5:30pm - Festive Splash and Dash @ UWA Boat Shed (where we normally meet for our Friday Run) – bring your runners and prepare for a short swim! But most importantly, bring a plate to share and whatever drinks you fancy.
- Australia day Camp – we have the Australia Day Triathlon coupled with some fun training activities, mechanical skills workshop and social interaction planned for January 26-28 long weekend. All skill levels are encouraged to attend. Look out for a link to RSVP.
Train safe and have a great holiday season!

Sports Nutrition tip from Gaby
I feel it on my fingers, I feel it on the scale... Christmas is all around me
That's right! The most wonderful time of the year is coming and with it, many opportunities to eat more and excuses to train less. So hopefully these tips will help you enjoy the holiday period without regretting the consequences.
1. Moderation. It's easier to avoid gaining weight than to wanting to lose it once the parties are over.
2. Keep moving! Social commitments make it harder to keep training but try and fit at least 30 min to 1 hr of physical activity 3-5 times per week.
3. Choose wisely. You don't need to try absolutely everything that is on the table, choose those dishes you like the most and try to balance your plate with some veggies and salad.
4. Eat well during the day. Starving yourself just so you won't feel guilty while eating dinner will just lead to you eating more than you planned to.
5. Drinks count too. Alcohol has calories too, try not to go too crazy there.
6. Enjoy! There are many more things that make this time of the year so great, such as spending more time with our beloved ones. Don't focus your attention just on the food.
If you have any questions or you would like advice specific to your goals, feel free to email me at gaby.lnb@gmail.com .
Felices fiestas!
